Is REANNZ down?

Two backbone links (FST–MUP and FST–AVL) failed this morning at 04:50 NZDT. Traffic is using alternate paths, so no service impact is expected. Our fibre provider is arranging site access and working on a restoration plan. Repairs can begin from 00:00 NZDT on Thursday 29 October, with restoration currently estimated for 06:00 NZDT. Next update by 17:00 today, or sooner if the status changes.

We are currently monitoring a potential issue that could affect connectivity in the Palmerston North area. Current Situation: Multiple core links in Palmerston North have failed. We have raised a priority case with our supplier and they are currently investigating. Fibre techs have been sent to the area of the suspected break. The MUP PoP is operating with reduced capacity and both MUP and PMR PoPs are now in a state of jeopardy.

The fibre provider reports that the site of the damage has been found and techs are on-site working on a repair plan. Further updates on status change or by 14:00.

Some links have been restored, but the repairs are still ongoing. Both MUP and PMR PoPs are no longer in immediate jeopardy, but we will wait for confirmation the fibre work is complete. Further updates on status change.

We have experienced a service disruption with one of our core router at Mayoral Drive Exchange POP approximately 1:30pm during a routine configuration change. The initial suspect has been identified and the connection has now recovered but we will continue to monitor the situation and perform a thorough investigation of what caused the outage. Apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused.

The fault has been logged with the hardware vendor. No further updates expected until next week.

Services remain stable. We are still waiting on the router vendor's root cause findings and will update this page once they are available.

The vendor is still investigating the underlying cause of the fault. Their preliminary assessment is that it was a rare event, requiring a specific combination of conditions, and is unlikely to recur. Services have remained stable since they were restored on 25 September. We will post a final update once the vendor’s investigation is complete.

Vendors are working on repairing a fibrecut impacting FST/AVL and FST/MUP links. You may notice higher latency across Wellington as this traffic is diverted around the cut via Christchurch or Hamilton

We observed an issue with one of our MAE handover ports. There was a loss of received light for a few minutes, and the port recovered while we were investigating. Only a few members were impacted, and we will be in touch with them directly. We will continue to monitor and follow up with the vendor.

Impacted a small group of members on one of the MDR handovers. Disruption began around ~16:25. Recovered around  ~16:33.
