Update timeline

  1. identified Sep 23, 2026, 12:47 AM UTC

Due to an on-going international subsea cable fault, AARNet's international connectivity to Asia and Europe may experience degraded performance or increased latency while traffic is rerouted via alternate paths. Our teams are working with the relevant cable and carrier partners to assess the fault and confirm restoration timelines. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

  2. identified Oct 13, 2026, 11:02 PM UTC

The disruption affecting undersea cables from Perth to Asia and Europe continues, with fault locations now known. International traffic to Asia and Europe remains affected with customers experiencing increased latency due to rerouted paths. Restoration work is scheduled, and we currently expect services to be progressively restored in late October. This estimate depends on the complexities of ship permits, travel and undersea cable repair works. The timeframe may change, and we will provide further updates if required. Our engineers continue to monitor and manage traffic flows. If your institution needs to escalate an urgent impact, please contact AARNet NOC or your customer representative. We will continue to provide weekly updates until full restoration.

  3. monitoring Oct 22, 2026, 03:16 AM UTC

Repair activities are progressing across the affected international subsea cable systems, with revised restoration timelines provided by our cable partners. The latest repair status is as follows: Indigo West (Perth–Singapore): Repair scheduled to commence on 25 October, with estimated completion by early November. ASC (Perth–Singapore): Repair scheduled to commence on 3 November, with estimated completion by mid November. Customers may continue to experience increased latency or degraded performance on international connectivity to Asia and Europe while traffic remains routed via alternate paths. These revised timelines extend beyond the previously advised late-October restoration estimate. Services are expected to be progressively restored as individual cable repairs are completed. Restoration timeframes remain subject to vessel availability, weather conditions, permits and the complexities of subsea repair works. Our engineers continue to monitor and manage international traffic flows to minimise customer impact. If your institution is experiencing an urgent impact, please contact the AARNet NOC or your customer representative.
